Review of Videodrome (1983) by Brandon M — 25 Dec 2008

This movie is kick ass. If I made a movie this would pretty much it. Explosively inventive, Cronenberg has made a deeply unsettling and at times very scary film. Rick Baker, the makeup artist, does great work here.

For the time that it was made Videodrome has very impressive special effects. Cronenberg tells a tale about technology but it never feels like you're being lectured or hectored at and that's because Videodrome isn't a parable or a fable it's just a horror or suspense story that fuses two of his obsessions- sex and technology- with a gooey eerie precision.

Videodrome will scare you and blow you away at the same time.
