Review of Videodrome (1983) by Juan C — 10 Jan 2011
A unique film that combines interesting visuals with a great concept. I like the idea of a frequency that causes a tumour to grow and hallucinate, especially when this is aimed towards undesirables. It covers themes of desensitisation and exploitations and touches upon the realm of snuff films. A true mega mash. There is even some melding of flesh and machine that would make Tetsuo proud. The decent into his hallucination is handled extremely well and would be revisited by Cronenberg in Naked Lunch. In fact there are even elements of Scanners in this film.
All the elements occur is a strangely believable way that even Dr Oblivion seems a possibility.
