Review of Videodrome (1983) by Ifiok O — 15 Oct 2013
David Cronenberg is indeed a thoughtful director to have come up the approach of using violence and bloodiness to accuse the toxicity of violent and obscene TV shows, which is exactly what Michael Haneke done 14 years later with Funny Games.
However, the hallucination-alike violence Cronenberg used is way too disgusting, which even becomes vulgarly pretentious and unsettling. Worse still, these accusations are not effective enough the punish the real culprits behind such violence - the idiotic TV audience longing to seek excitements from blood, violence and porno.
Why should he cast a curse on the poor producers? They are no more than following the choosy audience.
