Review of Victoria & Abdul (2017) by Crystal W — 15 Oct 2017
A very charming movie about an unlikely friendship. Often funny, sometimes sad, and very heart warming. While it comments upon the racism and classism of the time, this movie is primarily about the relationship between two people.
I have a feeling that some people wont like this film because they'd prefer this movie to be mainly about the horrors of colonialism. While colonialism is horrible, this isn't that movie and it doesn't have to be.
There is historical evidence to back up much of this story in regards to the Queen's relationship with Karim. This movie will dissatisfy people who don't want to see the grey in historical events and want things to be starkly black and white.
