Review of Victor Frankenstein (2015) by Joanna W — 06 Dec 2015
It looked really interesting from the trailer. But oh my god, it was so crap. It's one of those movies where it's teetering on hilarious, and a graphically serious movie. It was neither, especially with the flying squirrel suit and Frankensteins monster swinging like a chandelier. Not even a reference to the emperor's new groove?
The way they've decided to represent Victor Frankenstein was lazy at best. Yes you do have a couple actors from Sherlock, but it's plain lazy just to base the entire character off of sherlock. That was not well thought out at all, and was a giant distraction. It reminded me a lot of Derren Brown too. I think if Derren Brown played this character, there would have been a better atmosphere. The only thing good about this dr frankeinstein was that you don't like him at all. I also liked that he was spitting every two seconds.
I hated the romance between Igor and the girl. Everyone was clearly gay, but the only relationship we see is straight. That's really dull. Plus the actress was far to pretty to be in the circus, and would have gotten kidnapped way earlier. There was absolutely no reason for her either. There's nothing compelling about her character at all, aside from the times that she wore that really cool shade of red.
Also, it makes absolutely no sense that both Gordon and the new monster's only instincts are to kill. That was lazily done too. My favourite thing about the movie was Andrew Scott. He was really good in the movie... but still the sherlock feel was there.
