I liked the movie Victor Frankenstein. In fact, I will probably buy the DVD upon its release. The movie successfully pulls off being a colorized version of a classic black and white horror film. I am surprised that the movie ranks so low with critics and audiences.

James McAvoy breathes life into the role of Victor Frankenstein without being over the top. He pulls off the iconic line "He's alive" without being a bad imitation and he offers the iconic mad scientist's sinister laugh as a sarcastic rejection of another character's assertion.

Daniel Radcliffe shows his got talent by being the conscience of Victor Frankenstein. The film is a story from the viewpoint of Igor played by Radcliffe. Radcliffe plays Igor as a suffering human who is secretly brilliant.

Igor in this movie is not the bumbling fly-eating assistant but the cautious partner of Victor Frankenstein who begins to believe the scientist has gone too far in his experiments. And let's not forget Andrew Scott who brilliantly portrays Inspector Turpin as a strongly religious police detective who is obsessed with stopping Frankenstein from playing God.

The movie is a philosophy teacher's dream because it balances the debate between religion and science. Which one is right? The movie will never tell. The movie Victor Frankenstein brings life to one of our most beloved classic novel and movies.
