Review of Victor Frankenstein (2015) by James R — 29 Dec 2017
Sometimes I like to unwind and just watch a mindless film where I don't gotta think much an this one pretty much fit the bill. A pretty much forgotten film at this point Victor Frankenstein follows Igor (Daniel Radcliffe) who is saved by Victor Frankenstein (James McAvoy) from the circus.
Igor was thought to be a hunchback, but Victor points out that he has a growth thats gone untreated for 18 years. All that plus Victor gives him a brace to make him stand correctly which in turn leads him to becoming a pretty seemingly normal person.
Victor saves Igor because in this telling of the story Igor is actually quite smart and has some perspectives on things that Victor somehow might overlook. Anywho Victor is gathering random parts in hopes of animating a dead thing into an alive thing.
Pursuing the two is a police officer named Turpin (Andrew Scott) who believes Victors work to be the work of the devil. So yeah. That's about it. It's a reimagining of the Frankenstein's Monster story, but told form the perspective of Igor (which lets face it the film should have been called).
It's actually quite well acted by James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe which was kind of a surprise for me, but overall the movies not that great. It has a pretty loose plot that's kind of all over the place.
Victor could have been a lot more crazier and I felt like I just never clicked with him. There's a subplot involving Igor and a lady named Lorelei (Jessica Brown Findlay) which is super unnecessary.
They should have focuse don more of Igor and Victor which is truthfully the best parts of this film. This is a forgettable film, but I could see it being a somewhat decent rental if you enjoy the Frankenstein aspect of it all.
