Review of Vice (2018) by Hassan I — 29 Dec 2018
Christian Bale delivers one of the best performances of his career in "Vice", an entertaining but flawed biopic. With his latest feature, writer/director Adam McKay takes an insightful look at the rise of a powerful politician.
Using a sharp screenplay and terrific performances from the cast, McKay has crafted an effective biopic. In the lead role, Christian Bale is absolutely stunning. Intense, charismatic and utterly unrecognizable, he delivers his finest performance to date in the role of a powerful politician.
The supporting cast, which includes the seasonally talented Sam Rockwell, is also worthy of recognition. Although "Vice" is undeniably well-made, it suffers from a case of style over substance.
The narration is unnecessary, and detracts from the film. So does the lengthy running time. Nevertheless, "Vice" is an entertaining biopic that is worth seeing for its spot-on recreation of a forgotten time in American history.
