Review of Vice (2018) by Karma K — 27 Dec 2018
Anyone who may muse why the U.S.A. is currently in such a state of divisiveness, possibly unprecedented since the American Civil War, should take in this movie. From the genesis of the Alt-Right media, to use/abuse of citizen focus groups, to the reason why no WMD were found in Iraq (besides the fact there were none), to the rise of ISIS, the path tracks back to the time and the personalities in recent but faded memory, and in particular, to the singular machinations of the central character.
While the timeline can be as erratic as the behavior of the younger Mr. Cheney, and whether totally factual or not, the storyline is as spellbinding as the casts' performance. While Christian Bale is remarkable, the performances turned in by all the actors are nothing short of outstanding.
A compelling storyline and an excellent cast. Go see this movie for its entertainment value and perhaps to gain some insight into modern history as it affects the world we know today.
