Review of Very Bad Things (1998) by Greg D — 07 Feb 2010
Generally speaking, I don't hate bad movies. I just forget them and move on. That said, this is not a forgettable film. I hate it. It's barely a movie at all. It's a shrill, obnoxious, hysterical nervous breakdown masquerading as a movie.
The fact that Peter Berg went on to create anything worth a shit after this is absolutely astounding, as he shows no capacity here for understanding what a story is or how to tell it. What's worse, he gathers a group of very good actors and forces them to give very bad performances that consist largely of shrieking, shaking and sweating profusely.
The script has nothing to say, and says it poorly. I seriously hate this film.
