Review of Vertigo (1958) by Planet C — 13 Jan 2013
This film's popularity is very interesting and varied in the public as not everyone has the interest or patience to see continuous serene, quiet shots of a man following an ambiguous, mysterious woman.
No one in cinematic history has or possibly ever will delve into obsessive love quite like Hitchcock does; it is very 'unlike' Hitchcock in this sense.
The film is about obsession, which means that it's about circling back to the same moment, again and again... And the music is also built around spirals and circles, fulfillment and despair. Bernard Herrmann really understood what Hitchcock was going for- he's done another phenomenal job for Hitchcock.
