Review of Vertigo (1958) by Dr. J — 04 Jun 2013
The culmination of Hitch's obsession with influencing his audience, VERTIGO is a parallelistic story, which I believe is among the very finest films ever to be fabricated. Hitchcxck has never been better at committing his keenly artistic eye to film and thrilling his vulnerably unaware audience. Certainly flawed, VERTIGO is forgiven of its failures by flaunting its perfections - and there are many - so we are ultimately left with true cinema. James Stewart radiates naivete, obsession, and guilt, while the natural and talented Kim Novak redefines the meaning of "femme fatale.".
One of my 3 favorite films of all time, alongside THE THIRD MAN and TAXI DRIVER.
#2 on my list of all-time greatest films.
