Review of Vertigo (1958) by Gavin S — 05 Sep 2012
For a movie made 54 yrs ago, some of the material could be just as relevant today. Jimmy Stewart in one of his bravest roles (for playing a character who WASN'T a version of Jimmy Stewart) and Kim Novak in her most memorable role, directed by Hitchcock in the classic tale of obsession.
I understand why this movie grows on people as they watch it over and over, there's a lot more to see and notice once you have the benefit of the whole story. I look forward to watching it again with all the extra layers already unveiled.
Scottie (Stewart) falls for a tortured woman who dies tragically, causing him a severe psychological damage. Once he is on the mend, he sees a dead-ringer for his lost love, and begins an obsessive, controlling relationship with her, shaping and molding her into the perfect copy of his love.
The results of which are staggering...A cinematic classic from one of the masters of film at the top of his game. An absolute must see.
