Review of Vertigo (1958) by Zach H — 08 May 2013
Here it finally is, after years of not quite knowing, my #1 favorite film of all-time. This movie captured me from the start and has been an obsession of mine ever since. A film about obsession becomes an obsession.
How perfect. I don't even know if effect was purposeful from Hitchcock. What makes Vertigo so special is kind of hard to put into words exactly, and anyway my words would fail this film, really; it needs to be seen to be believed.
It's Hitch's most emotional, mysterious, engrossing, beautiful masterpiece from a 50-year career of making many masterpieces. It really is the Pet Sounds or The Great Gatsby of film. Perfect in every way.
