Review of Veronica Mars (2014) by Leon B — 23 May 2014
Review:
Although I've heard of the series, I've never seen an episode so I didn't know how big a deal the movie was until I saw the behind the scenes footage on the DVD. Anyway, the movie does have a TV series type of feel to it so it shouldn't disappoint the fans. As a movie, it's pretty average but watchable. You end up sticking with the film to see the outcome, but it isn't amazing or out of the norm for a movie in this genre. The storyline was well put together by the director, especially in such a small time, but it's not the type of the film that you can watch time and time again. All of the actors put in a believable performance, but as I didn't know the characters from the series, I can't really comment on how good there performances are in the movie. Anyway, it's worth a watch !
Round-Up:
It's a shame that this film didn't make more money because the whole movie was funded by the fans through the Kickstarter website. I haven't heard of this type of funding before so I was surprised to see the director get such a big budget to work with. When I actually saw the fans on the DVD, I couldn't believe that people were so devoted to the original series, that only lasted 3 seasons. The director put some of the funding public, into the movie as extras which was a great touch for the fanatics. To be honest, I wasn't expecting that much, but it wasn't that bad.
Budget: $6million.
Worldwide Gross: $3.5million.
I recommend this movie to people who were into the original Veronica Mars series or just want to watch a lady detective play Columbo. 4/10.
