Review of Veronica Mars (2014) by Thomas W — 23 May 2014
While I think the film should entertain anybody who decides to watch it, I will admit that it is more of a love letter to its fans than anything else. After unceremoniously being canceled several years ago, Veronica Mars (the TV show) left many devoted fans wanting more as we weren't really pleased with how the show left us hanging on some very important plot points.
Uh, seriously. Veronica Mars (the movie) takes place in the coastal California town of Neptune nearly 10 years after the events of the final season occurred. One-time amateur PI Veronica (Kristen Bell) is debating whether or not to attend her 10-year class reunion while trying to definitively decide her future career plans .
.. when her long-time love-him-and-hate-him antagonistic "friend" Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) is accused of murdering his rock-star girlfriend. Veronica decides to help but ends up discovering a whole lot more regarding the denizens of the town she once called home.
Most of the recurring characters return (!!!) for this go-round; but be warned ... there is a body count (including one of my faves). Sharp writing and Bell's sarcastic quips elevate this film above standard young-adult fare and it is enjoyable.
I believe anybody - not just Marshmallows - could like this and for those who have the time ... I'd like to recommend VM's three seasons for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy ... and you're welcome!
