Review of Veronica Mars (2014) by Abraham S — 21 Sep 2014

I would like to start this review by stating that I am by no means a fan of the original television series, and not for lack of caring, but rather a lack of having actually seen it. Even without this background knowledge of the characters, I was still able to get the sense that these were people who were well established with real actual, complex relationships and pasts.

They were visited with a sort of forced reverence that I think the film could have done without, but it was handled as well as it could have been under the circumstances. Kristen Bell is typically gorgeous, funny, and sexy all at once, and her allure has only seemed to strengthen with time.

As titular character Veronica Mars, she is charismatic and thoroughly convincing - it is, after all, a role that can be argued that built her career, and one that she slips very comfortably into. I could not see her seams.

In fact, the entire supporting cast, actors I'm sure are familiar faces to all the fans of the series, were excellently comfortable reprising their long-held and beloved roles. There is a legacy here, one that I was unfortunate enough to miss, but one that lives and breathes through the film's DNA.

I could sense that much in spite of my ignorance to the material. I was drawn to the film due to my extreme fondness for Kristen Bell, but I was pleasantly surprised to find something interesting, fun, and dramatic.

I would watch this again. But, of course, that would be after revisiting the rest of Kristen's filmography - even the god awful Pulse.
