Review of Vera Drake (2004) by Yago C — 16 Dec 2007
Terrific thoughtful, moving film. Reminds me of "Dead Man Walking" in that it addresses a major issue (abortion in this case) by presenting it in all its very messy, very complex, very human facets.
There's a position here for sure, but it emerges so subtly as a by-product of just following the sincere and simple choices made by this woman -- brilliantly portrayed -- under trying circumstances.
