Review of Vera Drake (2004) by Andy S — 04 May 2008
I entered into my viewing of this film with much hesitation considering the subject matter, but found it to be a beautifully acted and touching film. You have to love European art films because they often lack the polarity of Hollywood fodder.
This movie did not glamorize abortion and did an amazing job of balancing perspectives on a very challenging issue. Kudos to the screenwriter and the nuanced directing by Mike Leigh. A worthy-see indeed.
