Review of Venus in Fur (2013) by David L — 23 Mar 2014
I honestly dont know if I love this movie or hate it: the last 10 minutes of the film was outright bizarre, but I welcome the return of Emmanuelle Seigner, whom I hadn't seen since her younger days in Frantic with Harrison Ford.
With all the fuss last year about 50 Shades of Grey, Polanski's decision to put the power back in the hands of the female species is bold, smart, and sexy. It's not an easy feat to do a movie in 1.
5 hours with only two characters largely conversing with one another --indeed, the dialogues bet. Amalric and Seigner is what defines the film, but the constant shift in their respective characters' "personage" and the roles they are in the movie (director vs.
actress) is also what makes it confusing at times.
