Review of Venus (1990) by Liam P — 09 Oct 2007
Apart from O'Toole's splendid performance and the surprisingly underappreciated work by Jodie Whittaker, this beautiful feature does wonders at examining the intricacies of aging. The loneliness, the love, the friendship, the difficulties of the everyday are all captured with such affection and insight that I was constantly moved.
The love story that develops is a beautiful one that never crosses a line for me and in fact with the breast scene moves into the realm of truly beautiful that is only confirmed with the paddling scene.
Wonderfully acted, beautifully directed and insightfully written. Considerably more than I expected.
