Review of Velvet Goldmine (1998) by Matias M — 28 Feb 2008
Lame and boring. Tragically, even with brilliant actors, well-intentioned and good ideas, cut, setting and dialogs are bloodless and just not interesting. I can well understand Bowie that he didn't give permission for the movie - unsurprisingly, the soundtrack is mostly terrible and dishonorable.
I think Haynes constructed the movie too intellectual and didn't really felt the personality of his protagonists and the groove and power of the 70s.
For an authentic Glamrock experience watch "Hedwig and the angry inch" or simply "Ziggy Stardust, The Motion Picture".
