Review of Vantage Point (2008) by Shiela E — 31 Jul 2011
A pretty good thriller. my only complaint was the way it was set up. the filmakers chose to present the same event from different viewpoints. so basically the movie continually resets to the beginning of the day so that you can see from the next character's POV.
I would have liked this idea if each POV had presented you with different clues as to what happened so that you could try and solve the puzzle. (that is somewhat how it was presented on the box). that isn't what happened at all though.
the first POVS don't really give you much to go on at all, and then the last POV tells you EVERYTHING. so basically I felt the whole different POVS was merely a gimmick to make the film seem unique.
might have been just the same or even better if the story had been told in the usual straightforward way. the "mystery" wasn't necessary here because it isn't really a mystery if they let you see everything and you don't have to actually try and figure out anything.
