Review of Vanity Fair (2004) by Ricardo O — 02 Aug 2010
I thought this was a pretty decent movie. Only the ending was forced and didn't leave a good taste in my mouth. In my opinion they should have replaced the ending with the alternate ending. It is a helluva lot better than the "official" ending. Other than that it is a pretty good film.
It is of course directed by acclaimed Indian director Mira Nair. Her direction of the actors is quite good. Reese Witherspoon gives a very good performance and the rest of the cast is good as well. The cinematography was very nice especially the use of natural lighting. The costumes and the art direction are fine as well. The script is written pretty good as well. It has some interesting and witty dialogue.
Final thoughts: change the ending to what is the "alternate" ending. Other than that it's a well made period drama adapted from William Thackeray's novel of the same name. 8/10.
