Review of Vanity Fair (1932) by Rachel L — 30 Dec 2008
The movie itself had all the great elements: great acting, good direction, beautiful shots and more. Too bad the story wasn't that great. They also left big gaps (from no talk of marriage and then a jump to elopment?) in the story and there were a surprising amount of seemingly important people that were only introduced when they were needed in the plot, and were never seen before or after that (even if the characters seemed to know them personally).
And there was too big a gap between Amelia's story and Becky's towards the end. I almost forgot what was going on with Amelia by the time they got back to her. And that last scene? Stupidest ending ever! I just started the book and I hope it's better than this.
...that it's just a bad script.
