Review of Vanaja (2006) by Ben H — 02 Oct 2007
An amazing film in all respects. The performances are wonderful, it is visually impressive and the story is among the most challenging I have ever seen. It's refreshing to see a film that puts some of the biggest contradictions possible in life upfront, without making it seem manipulative.
A matter-of-fact account of one girl's life that passes no judgment on her or anyone else. The characters are rendered as truly complete human beings, quite frankly depicting where the ways in which they are both powerful and powerless.
