Review of Van Helsing (2004) by Abel D — 23 Mar 2013
Unashamedly cornball-ish and silly, Van Helsing is essential a big budget 80s monster mash, complete with hysterically cheesy dialogue and one liners, effects galore (that combine Universal and Hammer sensibilities and aesthetics) and plenty of ridiculous but well-shot action sequences.
Same goes with the cast, from the straight-laced, no-nonsense, almost-B Grade Eastwood-ian, Jackman to the hammy and campy Roxborough as the Prince of Darkness himself (accent and manic expressions included).
