Review of Vampire's Kiss (1989) by Maryellen K — 03 Mar 2010
I love, love, loved this film.
It's not good, but it's undeniably incredibly interesting. There's a lot of interesting stuff going on in it, but enough of it doesn't work to stop it being a good film. That said, Nic Cage is absolutely bat-shit insane and makes the film more than worth watching. There is no other way to describe him here. Bat-shit insane.
He's utterly mental. The film's main problem is that it's impossible to tell whether it's an intentional comedy or not. If it is, aspects of it become brilliant but others not so great, likewise, if it isn't, other aspects become brilliant and others not great. It's a big mess of a film, but like I said, incredibly interesting, and seriously. Nic Cage.
If you thought The Wicker Man remake was hilarious, give this a go. Nic Cage. Funny as.
Personal enjoyment (for Nic Cage): 8/10.
Personal enjoyment (for the film properly): 6/10.
Actual quality as a film: 5/10.
