Review of Vampire in Brooklyn (1995) by Christopher L — 31 Jan 2005
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Angela Bassett, Allen Payne, Kadeem Hardison, John Witherspoon, with Zakes Mokae, and Joanna Cassidy.
Directed by Wes Craven.
Written by Charles Murphy, Michael Lucker, and Christopher Parker.
Rated R (for strong language and vampire violence).
Running time approximately 1 hour 42 minutes.
Wes Craven's horror-comedy Vampire in Brooklyn is one of the most ridiculously miscalculated films I've ever seen. It tries to be serious about its would-be frightening elements while still trying to maintain a comic edge that never builds to anything more than a few chuckles here and there (mostly due to the bad makeup). What Wes Craven, Eddie Murphy and Angela Bassett were thinking when they made this crap, I do not know. All I know is I don't ever want to suffer through it again. * (out of ****) D.
