Review of Vampire in Brooklyn (1995) by D M — 05 Jul 2013
Eddie Murphy is the last vampire living on a small Caribbean island after a massacre of them by vampire hunters. He travels to NY on a ghost ship to find a relative. Some funny stuff happens as he starts to feed and cops start to track him in this fish-outta-water story.
The vampire makes a low-life criminal his "ghoul", essentially zombie-like go-fer that is basically a vampire-in-waiting; he a source of much of the humor. Not nearly as bad as its reputation.
Maybe Eddie Murphy fans expect him to always be funny, which he only was when he played Preacher Pauley and (the racially-charged) Guido.
