Review of Valley Girl (1983) by Franz P — 24 Oct 2007
I was really disappointed by this film because I heard so many good things about it. Not to mention it gained cult status among fans, claiming that this movie popularized the whole "like, oh my god, that's so totally tubular!" language that is still around today.
I found myself yawning fifteen minutes into the movie because everyone is so shallow. Their problems are not even that deep so I found it hard to care. I just wanted it all to end because I was annoyed with pretty much all of the characters an hour into the movie.
This film is all style but no substance... even for a film in the 80's. If you want to check out a great 80's flick, stick with the works of John Hughes and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
" "Valley Girl" is sophomoric and mind-numbingly tedious. Spare yourself the anguish from rolling your eyes and scoffing whenever someone makes a stupid decision.
