Review of Valhalla Rising (2009) by Kym (C My Community Profile) R — 08 Dec 2010
What to make of this, I'm not sure! Mads Mikkelsen plays a warrior, The fearsome yet mute 'One Eye'. Treated as a slave who's aided by a young boy I think he was called 'are' who brings him food & water daily finally free they set out on a journey coming to an unknown land.
IN the first 5-15 minutes of the movie I don't think there was any dialog. Then you have Mads being a mute in it (wow! What a concept the star of the movie being a mute! Hello makers of Hannah Montana stuff.
.. Please take this into consideration!) There's some mildly bloody scenes in her you'll see it splash up or a mini geyser type scene. This is written as chapters. Pt 1 is wrath, 2, The silent warrior, 3 men of God (which tho? The Christians or the ones w/ balls?) 4 The holy Land (which isn't so much) 5 Hel 6 The Sacrifice.
I'd really like to grade this but really not sure if I even liked it. I'd say its original (even though Tarintino did the chapter format with the Kill Bill movies. Even while watching it I didn't know what to make of it.
Minimal dialog, a star that doesn't speak etc. yes its dark its from like 1000 AD, Well that's original for me but to put a grade on it. I'm going to a 'guesstimate' with a B (for having the balls at least to have your star NOT having a damn line).
