Review of Valhalla Rising (2009) by Dillon K — 04 Jun 2011

For years, the fearsome figure known only as One Eye (Mads Mikkelsen - PUSHER, FLAME & CITRON, CASINO ROYALE) has defeated everyone he's encountered, but he's treated more like an animal than a warrior. The only person he has any relationship with is the young boy who brings him food and water daily. Constantly caged and shackled, One Eye has drawn the attention of a new force now sweeping the countryside and displacing the society's leaders: Christians.

Saw this strange, ultra violent visually stunning movie last night on TV. well I wasn't sure to watch this movie but now I think it was worth it. really like this movie. it is ofcourse a one time watch only. it caught my attention while I was switching the channels I saw this one with those misty mountains and the one eye killing men so brutally. I thought lets watch it. he is this warrior who may be silent but his actions speaks for him, I was pretty shocked by his character. he kills people, bad guys ofcourse very brutally. movie is cruel and story is something that is so simple but screenplay and his character is kind of complex.

Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn who I was unaware of until recently he caught mine and I think everyone's attention with his BEST DIRECTOR win at the CANNES for his upcoming HIGHLY ANTICIPATED movie DRIVE, can't wait for that one. he directs this movie in a very different way, he is talented and has his own sets of style. I like it. he could have been better in this movie though. screenplay is engaging to be honest but once you see this movie you might think about it and you won't much understand it, story is simple and interesting. cinematography is spectacular, one of the best ever. everything is superb. Mads Mikkelsen did an awsome job, perfect role for him. its stylish and violent brutal take and this movie, the way its been made may shock you. most of you won't wanna watch it, but give it a try. MILDLY recommended.
