Review of Valhalla Rising (2009) by Charles H — 14 Jul 2012
I had an idea of what the movie would be like, based on what I saw in Nicolas Winding Refn's previous work "Bronson". Both movies are very dreamlike and intense... a movie open to interpretation. Some people might complain that this is too slow... but very much like (and another favorite of mine) "There Will Be Blood" its done very well and creates a haunting atmosphere.
Mads Mikkelsen is great, he does not speak but it makes the whole experience more unique and unsettling. I recommend this movie to those willing to challenge themselves to watch something with more to it than the normal blockbuster action-fests.
