Absolutely loved Drive so I had to see some other Refn movies. Valhalla Rising is dark and uncompromisingly brutal, but being a viking movie taking place at the tail end of the dark ages how can it not be? It's a fascinating period because in many ways it was the lowest point of human nature that we know off .
There is a slow, ambient style to it all so I assume these must be Refn's trademarks...slow, moody, cool and violent. I recommend it, but it's absolutely not for everyone. Mads Mikkelsen is amazing in it.
