Review of Valhalla Rising (2009) by Jonny W — 17 Jun 2013
Valhalla Rising is first and foremost a highly experimental and interesting film. The film has very little dialogue and lots of gore, but in between that is a darkly poetic character study of the contrasting sides of human nature.
One-eye and the little boy combine to make one of the most intriguing character combinations ever put to film. And Refn's directing creates a perfectly dark and gloomy atmosphere by contrasting human brutality with the beauty of nature.
Overall, this film is one of the most interesting action dramas I have ever watched, and I think it goes to show just how radical of a director Refn can be.
