Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Sophie R — 04 Aug 2017
I thoroughly enjoyed the comedic aspect. It has, I would say, a kind of Star Wars Episode 1 - Phantom Menace feel about it and has a diverse range of aliens and characters to oggle. It is more like Avatar but for teenagers.
It has a surreal, abstract side to it that resonates with me, and its soundtrack is pleasant to hear while its storyline being both predictable and not (in equally good ways). I thought the sincing of lip to voice in the cutting was sloppy.
But all in all, as a film, it is a cult classic waiting to happen. It is fun for teens and very reminiscent of Fifth Element.
