Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Brandon W — 22 Dec 2017
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is directed and written by Luc Besson, and it stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne in a science fiction about 2 soldiers that come to get something from alien pirates, and they end up in a more deeper situation that they ever been in.
I wasn't really that excited to see this when I heard about it, or even if it was put on DVD, but my aunt wanted to see this, and I figured what the heck, watch it and give a review of this, which turns out to be an all right film that's not as good as it's trying to be.
The visuals mostly look obvious but still inventive looking, but there were some obvious and distracting effects that looks really off. The action scenes are fun to watch, and the best parts are when Ethan Hawke and Rihanna shows up, and it makes me wonder about why the main leads aren't them instead of what we got.
The story in this is very generic, and I just didn't care about the story that it brought to me. The main 2 leafs lacked chemistry, and they were all right at best. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets was what I expected from this film, but I'll give Luc Besson some credit or putting the time and his own budget to make this film.
