Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Sojum — 04 Nov 2017
Criminally underrated. It brings an already defined and complex universe without handholding and providing unnecessary exposition. I get that this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s wild and crazy and sometimes silly.
But it’s certainly not simple or dumbed down. It will find it’s rightful following on video. The only real detractors are the wooden performances of the two leads. Valerian is an unfortunate graduate of the Keanu Reeves school of acting and the chemistry just isn’t there between the two.
Beyond that it’s a fantastic, visual feast that only Luc Besson could pull off and get away with.
