Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Bertoflyingfox — 21 Jul 2017
I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. It's indie nature shines through and gives way to truly unique sci-fi (and even borderline cyberpunk) elements. The troopers in this space opera can actually aim!!
I feel maybe 15 minutes could have been shaved off, with its weakest points being Rihanna's sub-plot and some needless mushiness in the final act. Still, it wasn't enough to stop me from enjoying the film and talking over certains scenes with my wife.
Despite a few cheesy lines, the relationship between the two lead actors felt pretty realistic to me, a husband of 6 years.
Side-Note: Valerian came well before Star Wars...
