Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by J T — 25 Jul 2017
Was very excited to see what I thought would be similar to The Fifth Element, also by Luc Besson. I was bored from the start to the finish. "It was bad.. It had no fire... no engergy... no nothing!" When are these directors going to get it that we don't want to be drowned in CG.
The story has to be believable. There was nothing at stake that humans could relate to in this movie. The love story was flat... the music was dull... and the cameo by Rhianna, where she swings around on a pole while getting CG'd from one outfit to another was terrible.
She is not an actor and proves she never will be. This part made me actually cringe and I almost walked out. I was glad when she died because her part was over. I almost walked out of the movie all together as it dragged on.
I left feeling dejected and depressed... I had my hopes up so high for another Fifth Element experience and this was not it!
