Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Marcello B — 21 Jul 2017
I had a lot of fun with this movie. It was a visual trip. The cgi was simply phenomenal. The story was pretty basic and I was not very enticed by it, however, the creativity made up for it. For me, this movie was a very enjoyable adventure.
I loved the creativity and there were some very exciting action sequences. I liked how they split the protagonists screen time, instead of only focusing on Valerian. Speaking of Valerian, I respect him as an actor, he was phenomenal in The Place Beyond The Pines, but I did not buy him being the biggest badass in the universe.
I do not think that both Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevinge really portrayed the characters correctly. I understand that the majority of this film was cgi, so there were a lot of green screens, and that probably made it extra hard on their part, but I simply was not feeling it.
Rihanna had a very cool and unique role in this movie. Like I said, creativity is on their side throughout the whole film, which really made this movie fun. I would really recommend this movie, if you want a fun and visually stunning adventure.
