Review of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) by Jamie N — 09 Aug 2017
Great visual adventure, but why was the army on the space station made up almost entirely of teenagers? It made me feel like I was watching a program on the Disney Channel instead of an amazing epic movie.
Speaking of teenagers, that's what I believed Valerian and Laureline actually were, based on what I'd seen of them in the previews. I assumed they were maybe some sort of exceptional, specially trained kids like the ones in Ender's Game.
But no, they are indeed meant to be fully grown adults. Well, I'm sorry, but it was really quite impossible to buy what that casting director was trying to sell. They, and most of the army just looked like high school children.
