Review of Vacation (2015) by Joe C — 27 Mar 2016
I heard of this film when it came out last summer, I opted not to see it, because I felt it would only tarnish what I felt for its classic 80's predecessor in National Lampoon's Vacation. It turns out, I was pretty much hitting the nail on the head with that presumption.
Thankfully, I did not spend money to view this film, as it would have been a waste. Let me be clear, it was funny at points, but when you rack (and Ill be fair) 23 mins of laughter into an almost 2 hour movie, thats a failure in my comedy book.
The useless Albanian car used over and over again was annoying. The overuse of a song always kills a film, but in this case, it was killed at the first use out of 4, because the song in question is Kiss From A Rose by Seal, and while that song is great, it is utterly ruined by this film.
So let me see if I can sum it up, it has very few short funny moments that destabilize the genre of comedy attached to it, and does no real justice to its predecessor. So if youre looking for a movie like this, do yourself a favor, and rent the 80's classic.
