Review of Vacancy (2007) by Movie K — 14 Nov 2015
A standard thriller about a couple Luke Wilson & Kate Beckinsale who is divorcing. They got lost on the highway and then their car broke down. They head back to the gas station but the motel manager Frank Whaley told them the mechanic Ethan Embry has already head home.
So the duo stay at the motel for the night. There's banging on the door but nobody is there. Luke complain to Frank. He watch some video tapes and discover the snuff video of killings matches their room and he find several hidden video camera.
They try to run but there's no escape. 2 masked men are toying them. Luke look at the videos and try to find the victims mistakes. The toilet seem to be a point for the killers and they found a secret door under the carpet.
They go down the tunnel and lead to the manager room. There's video software and many TV as surveillance. Kate call for police but Frank return. He saw the phone and knew where they go. The duo went in the tunnel and escape in another room.
A sheriff came to check and he saw the video as well. The duo quickly go out for help but the patrol car is disabled. A baddie kill the sheriff and they escape. Luke break the window and leave a piece of clothing there.
Kate hide in the ceiling and Luke want to go out. He open the door and is stabbed. Daylight, Kate get down and immediately a killer is behind her. She run for the car and another attack from the sun roof.
She drive and knock the killer dead and the attack also die. She go for the manager room and try to get the gun but Frank attack her. She fell to the floor and shoot Frank dead. Luke didn't die and she get the phone cable and dial 911.
The thing I'm not sure and unhappy about is that how can people at desperate times don't arm themselves and don't get crazy violent in self defense mode. They could have arm themselves and kill those assholes few times.
