Review of V/H/S: Viral (2014) by Chris O — 21 May 2016
A witless, nonsensical mess of sub-Tales from the Crypt schlock (but without Tales from the Crypt's sense of fun). This one entertains a rough impression of a framing device, like the previous two films in the series, except it doesn't actually do anything to tie itself to any of the short films shown (with one exception).
That's right - the framing device doesn't actually FRAME anything. One of the shorts even lurches clumsily between documentary, found footage, and regular "the camera is just a floating ghost held by nobody in particular" style film.
The parallel dimension short is just cryptic and strange enough to be interest-holding, but its bit of creativity on offer is completely washed out when a later short shifts between "boring YouTube skate video" and "boring horrible video game.
".
