Review of V/H/S: Viral (2014) by Narae P — 20 Mar 2017
Man did this series really got worse and worse never getting much better than the original VHS (2012). VHS Viral is the third film in the VHS series which are a series of short horror films connected by some sort of a story.
This one like the others uses found footage and its "main story" centers around a guy named Kevin (Patrick Lawrie) who is filming a police chase that's going around town, but in the process his girlfriend Iris (Emilia Area Zoryan) is kidnapped by a stolen ambulance.
The ambulance drives around town messing with peoples cell phones and causing them to become violent. The short stories are Dante the Great about a magician who finds a magical cape that gives him powers, Parallel Monsters which is about a man who creates a portal into another dimension where he meets himself and lastly Bonestorm which is about a bunch of skateboarders who run into a cult.
So here's my thoughts on it all. The main story (called Vicious Circles btw) is easily the worst connecting story out of all three VHS films. It's all over the place I never cared about Iris and Kevin is super annoying.
Nothing is creepy about the over the top violent parts and It didn't connect the short stories as well as the previous movies did with their connecting anthologies. Dante the Great isn't bad, but isn't exactly that scary.
It has one creepy scene. Parallel Monsters is almost too long and drawn out although I did enough the "twist." Bonestorm was probably my favorite, but it was still really all over, but had the most enoyable characters out of the three short films.
Overall, this is a solid skip. Unless you've seen the last two VHS films and really want to finish this thing out it isn't worth your time!
