Review of V/H/S/2 (2013) by Amanda S — 07 Jun 2013

I was extremely excited about this movie, because I am a big fan of the first one and was completely terrified and intrigued by it, therefore I was expecting this one to be similar or even better. But to my surprise, this one didn't exceed my expectations, it wasn't bad or a typing like that, it's just that it wasn't better than the first one. This one had only four tapes instead of five, and had a running time of about twenty-minute less than the first movie. Thus, the least you can get is four excellent tapes. And don't get me wrong, at least two out of the four were great, but the other two, I'm not so sure. My favorite ones were "Safe Haven" and "Slumber Party Alien Abduction". The first one was the best one of the whole movie, it was very creepy and gory and interesting. It was also very terrifying because it was the most real one in a cult kind of way. And the second one I liked, wasn't as effective as the one before, but just the fact of "them aliens" chasing the kids and the doggy cam, made it scarier to me. The only thing I disliked was the way the aliens looked, because it was obvious they were humans in some creepy costumes. Now, the other two that I disliked were "A Ride in the Park" and "Phase 1 Clinical Trials", I have to say that they weren't bad, but weren't either to the level of the first V/H/S movie. "ARITP" wasn't scary and the "zombies" weren't convincing looking. At least they added the twist in the end. And "P1CT" did scared me, but I didn't liked the fact that the ghosts looked just like a person had some make-up on and some creepy clothes, and also the ending of it didn't make any sense. The first story which was the introductory with the two investigators was really good too, and creepy. But it also gave a better conclusion at the end of the movie than the first one did, which at least was an improvement. The acting in all the stories was pretty decent, and I also liked the fact that they tried to tie in the first movie with this one, so that it could feel more like a sequel and give it some fluency. Overall, it did disappoint me a little, but at least it did scare while watching it and after it was over I was still a little creeped out, which always means that they did something good. I would totally watch another V/H/S movie, if they decided to do so. Because they are very innovative and have sometimes some original concepts and ideas.
