Review of V/H/S/2 (2013) by Jerico T — 26 Oct 2013
V/H/S/2 is an incredible improvement over its predecessor and is one of the best horror films I've seen in quite a long time. Because there are four separate stories and an interlaying story, I will talk about them separately.
The first story provides a very tense atmosphere and made me feel very uneasy and even jump at times, which is good. But the actual story behind it is non too interesting and seemed like a rip off of the already rip off "The Eye" with Jessica Alba. Plus, the acting was very mediocre and cheesy. But it was still very creepy and enjoyable.
The second, was not scary but I don't think it intended be. I don't want to spoil any of the movie, so all I can really say is that it was very fun and exciting and had the very clever idea of (I don't think this will ruin anything) having it be filmed from the perspective of a zombie via a Go Pro camera attached to his bike helmet. Although it was fun, it had the same problem as the first story: very bad acting. And I mean worse than commercial acting. But it is a small issue and can easily be overlooked due to the fun you'll be having.
The third, is one of the best pieces of horror I've ever seen. I can't say anything regarding the story because I truly feel that it would ruin the experience. The acting is great, the story is massively intriguing, the mood is very creepy, the gore is plentiful, the excitement is endless; I could just go on and on. I never wanted this one to end because it continued to get better and better. There were multiple moments where I thought it was going to end, and something else incredible happened and blew my mind. "V/H/S/2" is a must-see, solely due to this segment.
The fourth and final story or "tape" was good, but I still feel that the third would have been a much better choice for the closer. Anyway, this story was mostly enjoyable and creepy. It was very exciting and continued to get even more exciting as it progressed. My only real problem with this segment is the shaky and glitchy camera. I get it, it makes the film feel real, but in this case it's simply annoying. It happens way too often and can be quite aggravating. But just like the others, this small problem can easily be overlooked.
Now, the interlaying story. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this part of the film. In "V/H/S" there was nothing really to its interlaying story and contained nothing interesting or exciting. But "V/H/S/2" greatly improved in this area. It gave us much more background information and was very chilling. It even contained what I would call the creepiest scene of the entire film.
"V/H/S/2" is a must-see for any fans of the genre. I promise you, it will not disappoint.
