?V for Vendetta?

Film Analysis.

?V for Vendetta? starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving, is a movie about the desire and quality of freedom and justice in every sense of the two words themselves. Also that freedom cannot be achieved without justice. With a few bits of humor mixed in that is. The spirit of commemoration, celebrating a day that has long been forgotten, and this is why the movie begins with, ?Remember, remember, the 5th of November. The gunpowder treason in plot, I see no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.? This is speaking of an actual event in history in the year 1605. When a man by the name of Gyforks attempted to blow up the house of parliament in Renascence day England. He attempted to do this because the government denied them their freedom. He was hanged by the neck until dead by an act of high treason.

History seems to repeat itself yet 450 years later in the same country, where England will execute Muslims and Homosexuals just for simply being one. They have curfew for adults as well as children, they have no form of freedom of speech except for the high Chancellor himself, and they kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people for elaborate scientific experiments. They?re not even allowed to eat real butter. Another critical message of the rather inspirational story, is that, ?people shouldn?t be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people.? quoted by ?V? ?Hugo Weaving?, meaning that governments bury fear into our heads of their capabilities, but they are outgunned and out manned by their people. Also that ideas cannot be touched or destroyed, they can only be transferred to another person to act. That?s what the film is about, acting to do what is necessary for freedom.

The system is corrupt and someone needs to do what is necessary to change that. Although you have to have patience and all the virtues someone should have to achieve that very valuable goal.

Who is going to do that you ask?

And so we move on,.

To ?V?

?V?, ?Hugo Weaving? is a very intelligent and intellectual character. One of his defining traits is his ability to be massively linguistically accurate in the language form of old English, which I am very fond of to add. Which is the root of his skill to do this is his wisdom in every sense of the word indeed. Like in the moral of the movie itself of which I mentioned before, he has the will to do what is necessary to pertain justice and freedom not only for him, but for his fellow citizens as well. As to anybody as innocent as his actions and morals may seem, there is a darkness to him. A necessary darkness at that, he desires vengeance because of his past experiences with the same government. He will give his life for freedom, justice and vengeance, no less.

He is rich and enjoyable in his knowledge for history, in fact that is how he gets his wish to blow up parliament in the first place as explained. That then goes onto explain his enjoyment for annual tradition that he harbors within himself. He quotes in the movie, ?tradition, philosophy, I enjoy them as much as any other bloke.? From his past experiences of torture and humiliation, not only does he desire revenge, but he does not want repetition to occur upon his fellow citizens.

Although she grows with fear in her heart, she shares a commonality with ?V? that cannot be ignored, she is strong willed and does not hold fear against fighting what she believes in.

Throughout the film she demonstrates tremendous amounts of courage. And by the time ?V? acts as if he is holding her captive she is no longer oblivious to the true ways of the world. There is not much to say about her except for the fact that she grows immensely throughout the film, and learns from V to use her fear against her enemies, to harness it and turn the tables by using it as a weapon. As demonstrated on the previous pages I would like to express that in my opinion she is an idealistic woman in an unidealistic world.

Part of the precise reason she wishes to assist ?V? is because of her parents. After her brother fell into deaths embrace they became rebel politicians, causing riots, protesting in the streets, whatever act they could to stop this ?madness? is what they called it. Her parents were murdered by the order of the High Chancellor when she was 12. So by the end she realizes that she has to help revise the government?s barbarous strategies. For her, for her parents and most importantly for her country. She plays a defining role in doing so and by the end, she has done her part and England will forever remember and commemorate the woman who played a large quantity in giving then their freedom, they will forever remember, Eve.
